Dr. Edmison, as the founder and Medical Director of Focus Eye Centre, has been involved in laser vision correction since 1992. He is a leader and pioneer in the field of refractive surgery. Having performed more than 35,000 procedures (Intralase SBK, PRK and LASIK), Dr. Edmison is one of the most experienced and respected laser eye surgeons in Canada.
Between 1996 and 1998, Dr. Edmison was the President of the Canadian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He was on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Ophthalmological Society and was the former Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Grace General Hospital in Ottawa. Dr. Edmison is currently on staff at the Ottawa Hospital and the Department of Ophthalmology, Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario.
Dr. Edmison has published numerous articles in the field of refractive surgery and is frequently asked to lecture at conferences throughout the world. In March 2000, Dr. Edmison was one of only four Canadian surgeons invited to speak at the First Congress of the World Federation of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a unique gathering of the world’s most respected and innovative eye surgeons. Every year, Dr. Edmison is asked to give various presentations on refractive surgery at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery annual conference. Dr. Edmison and Focus Eye Centre have been involved in a number of research projects for laser companies over the past 15 years and have enjoyed a close association with the University of Ottawa Eye Institute.
Dr. Edmison has also been involved with a volunteer cataract teaching program on Project ORBIS, a flying eye hospital in Hyderabad India in 2000 and Fuzhou, China in 2003. In June 2003, Dr. Edmison was asked to participate in a research study for VISX, the leading manufacturer of excimer lasers. Only a very small number of Canadian surgeons have been given this honour.
