Take the First Step Toward Clarity

Ready to experience the freedom of life without glasses or contacts? Contact Focus Eye Centre Kingston today to schedule your no-charge consultation. Our team is ready to answer all your questions and help determine if laser vision correction is right for you.

At Focus, we provide Intralase SBK, PRK, and Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE). These are all similar but can be suited for different patients depending on their situation. Basically, SBK and PRK both reshape the cornea; the only real difference between them is how we access the cornea. RLE, on the other hand, is more like cataract surgery where we replace a lens with an artificial one.  To learn more, head over to our Procedures & Surgeons page.

We offer flexible financing options to make laser vision correction affordable for all Kingston residents, with payment plans that fit your budget. In addition to our laser vision correction services, we provide comprehensive eye care solutions, always returning to our core mission: helping you achieve your finest possible vision through advanced laser vision correction technology.

Frequently Asked Questions About Laser Vision Correction in Kingston

Several factors may influence your candidacy for laser vision correction at our Kingston facility. Certain eye conditions present challenges, including keratoconus (corneal thinning), severe dry eye syndrome, and advanced glaucoma. Kingston’s waterfront climate can sometimes exacerbate dry eye conditions, which we thoroughly evaluate during your consultation. Medical conditions like uncontrolled diabetes or autoimmune disorders that affect healing may also impact eligibility. Additionally, patients with unstable vision prescriptions—common among Kingston’s university students during intense study periods—may need to wait until their prescription stabilizes. Pregnancy and nursing temporarily disqualify candidates due to hormonal fluctuations affecting vision stability. Our Kingston specialists conduct comprehensive evaluations to determine your specific situation, often finding that many patients initially concerned about qualification are indeed suitable candidates. For those who don’t qualify for laser vision correction specifically, we discuss alternative vision correction options available at our Arlington Park location, ensuring every Kingston resident receives the most appropriate treatment for their unique eye health profile.

Many Kingston residents over 50 find tremendous value in laser vision correction, especially those maintaining active lifestyles along the waterfront, participating in Kingston’s vibrant cultural scene, or enjoying outdoor activities throughout Eastern Ontario. While age itself isn’t a barrier, we carefully evaluate how age-related eye changes might influence outcomes. After 50, many Kingston patients develop presbyopia—the natural age-related difficulty focusing on close objects—which standard laser vision correction won’t correct. However, we offer solutions like monovision laser correction, where one eye is corrected for distance and the other for near vision, particularly beneficial for Kingston’s active seniors. Additionally, if you’re beginning to develop cataracts, common in Kingston’s aging population due to increased UV exposure from waterfront activities, we might recommend cataract surgery with premium lens implants instead of laser vision correction. During your consultation at our Kingston centre, we thoroughly discuss these considerations, helping you make an informed decision based on your specific vision goals, overall eye health, and lifestyle needs in the Kingston community.

Kingston’s seasonal variations create unique considerations for timing your laser vision correction procedure. Many Kingston patients prefer winter months for their procedure, as indoor recovery time aligns naturally with Kingston’s colder weather. Additionally, winter’s lower pollen counts benefit patients with seasonal allergies, creating less post-operative irritation. For Kingston’s university community, scheduling during semester breaks provides ideal recovery time without academic pressure. Patients should plan their procedure when they can arrange 1-2 days of minimal activity, avoiding swimming in Lake Ontario for at least two weeks post-procedure. From a financial perspective, many Kingston residents opt for procedures early in the calendar year after health spending accounts have reset. Our Arlington Park facility offers year-round procedures, with consistent indoor climate control ensuring optimal surgical conditions regardless of Kingston’s external weather patterns. During your consultation, our team helps determine the ideal timing based on your specific lifestyle, work schedule, and Kingston’s seasonal activities you enjoy, ensuring minimal disruption to your routine while maximizing comfort during recovery.

Ready to See Clearly?

We don’t have to tell you what you already know – that living with glasses and/or contacts can be a major inconvenience. It’s expensive, time-consuming, and bothersome.

And yet, dealing with glasses and contacts can become such a habit that we don’t fully appreciate how amazing it would be to live life without needing them. What it would feel like to wake up in the morning and be able to see your alarm clock without having to fumble for your glasses. How relieving it would be to not have to worry about your contacts falling out or breaking your glasses while enjoying physical activity. Even how much more enjoyable it would be to watch television, to experience nature, to actually have good peripheral vision.

Ultimately, we’re passionate about helping our patients experience the world more fully and to see more clearly, which is why you should get in touch if you’re considering laser eye surgery. We offer free, no-obligation consultations to all new patients. What are you waiting for? Get in touch!
