If you still have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us
Preparation
You will be asked to arrive at Focus Eye Centre approximately 30 minutes prior to your surgery time. The only anaesthetic you will have is in the form of eye drops so you may eat, drink and take regular medications as usual on the day of surgery.
A friend or relative may accompany you and watch your surgery.
If you wear contact lenses, you will need to leave them out for the following number of days prior to surgery:
- Disposable: 4-7 days
- Soft: 1-2 weeks
- Hard/Toric: until topography is stable (up to 8 weeks)
Treatment
You will recline on your back in the operative chair. It will take a few minutes to position you properly under the microscope.
A pillow is molded to your head for stability and comfort. Your doctor will place an eyelid speculum in your eye to hold your eyelid open and prevent you from blinking.
You will be instructed to concentrate on the red flashing light. Your doctor will monitor your eye through a microscope at all times, and will correct for any unplanned eye movement.
Your surgeon maintains complete control at all times throughout the procedure. The laser is equipped with a variety of safety mechanisms, and is tested each day and between surgeries to ensure that everything is working properly.
Your doctor will talk you through each step to make you feel as comfortable as possible. Remember, the advantages of laser surgery are the remarkable speed and ease of the procedure. You will need to arrange to have someone drive you home after the procedure .
